We are excited to welcome Amy Edwards, a physical therapist, to our Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center team and be able to expand our pelvic health services!

Amy was drawn to Mercy Health because she wanted the opportunity to grow pelvic health services in her community.

“Being a part of Mercy Health means more opportunities for me to grow specialty service offerings as well as expand my geography to provide services to a broader community,” says Amy.

She adds, “I was drawn at a young age to the field of medicine by a desire to help others combined with a love of science, especially anatomy.”

So far, Amy’s professional journey in physical therapy has been an adventure of constant learning.

“During my first pregnancy more than 20 years ago, I was approached regarding starting a prenatal and postpartum exercise program.”

Amy saw a need and sought out to obtain the certification to teach this. Shortly thereafter, Amy was asked to rise to a different challenge by digging in and learning more about the treatment of female incontinence.

“Over the years, those two little influences to learn something new evolved into educating myself on nearly all aspects of pelvic health services from a physical therapy standpoint,” Amy shares.

Today, she is proficient in treating male and female pelvic health issues of nearly every age, whether it be a multitude of bladder and/or bowel control issues, numerous aspects of pelvic pain, pre and post-surgical rehab of the pelvic region, and pregnancy/postpartum-related dysfunction.

“This is a very rewarding population of patients to treat as a clinician,” says Amy. “The treatments are very individualized to each patient and his or her specific condition. This means we really get to know our patients personally and then see the positive results therapy makes in their quality of life.”

Outside of practicing physical therapy, Amy enjoys reading, exercising (especially running), traveling, and most of all spending time with her family.

“We like to go snowmobiling and 4-wheeling up north, but we also love to head to beaches down south!  Also, our daughter will be getting married this summer, which means our family will be growing creating an even more exciting future ahead.”
