Activities You Should and Shouldn’t Do During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Social distancing guidelines from the federal government were recently extended through April 30. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing means avoiding group settings and mass gatherings. In situation when you are near others, maintaining a distance of six feet or more is important too.

During this COVID-19 outbreak, social distancing has become essential in order to flatten the curve. Through social distancing, we are able to reduce the number of individuals who get sick at one time and protect health care systems from becoming overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases. We are also able to slow the spread and protect those most vulnerable from getting sick.

So, exactly what activities should you avoid when practicing social distancing? And which activities are still safe to do? We’ve broken everything down for you here.

Avoid altogether

The following are places and activities you should be avoiding during the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • Parties
  • Sleepovers
  • Playdates
  • Traveling
  • Crowded retail stores
  • Visitors in your house
  • Non-essential workers in your house
  • Mass transit systems
  • Public workout facilities
  • Concerts and theater shows
  • Athletic events
  • Church services

Proceed with caution

While it is still okay to participate in the following activities, be sure to keep a safe distance from others while doing so.

  • Getting takeout from a restaurant
  • Shopping for groceries

Safe to do

The following activities are still safe to do during the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • Yard work
  • Spring cleaning in your house
  • Reorganizing a room or closet
  • Reading a good book
  • Listening to your favorite music

  • Writing in a journal
  • Working on a puzzle
  • Having a family game night
