Heather Humes, RN, a behavioral health nurse at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center in our Lima market, is all about deflecting attention from herself. She prefers to spotlight her dedicated colleagues and the profound calling of nursing.
“One of the things I love the most about my job is who I work with,” Heather shares. “I am fortunate to work with an amazing group of people passionate about providing great care for those suffering with their mental health.”
Heather emphasizes the supportive environment in our ministry. “Being a Mercy Health nurse means being valued and part of a community that strives to provide the best, most compassionate care to our patients and their families.”
Beyond her clinical duties at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center, Heather advocates tirelessly for her patients.
“Nurses don’t just advocate for our patients at the bedside; we are often volunteers in our communities, serve on committees to change or implement laws to improve health care and are at the front of supporting patient rights and autonomy,” she explains.
Outside of work, Heather is passionate about spending time with her family and engaging in hobbies like reading, gardening and crafting.
“Part of my self-care routine is making sure I take time to craft, even if it’s just making Play-Doh sculptures with the kids,” she shares.
Heather’s passion extends to her personal life, where she fosters her youngest daughter and advocates for her eldest, who is autistic and nonverbal. Committed to continuous learning, Heather is pursuing her master’s degree in nursing leadership and management, with plans to obtain a behavioral health nurse practitioner certificate.
