Meet Andrea Berrien, MBA, MSN, RN! She has been with the ministry for just over three years. After initially starting as a house supervisor, she recently took on the role of unit manager for the 1N Orthopedic/Med Surg Unit at Mercy Health – Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Andrea’s role as a nurse leader empowers her to make a significant impact on her team, patients and their families.

“Being able to inspire, empower and be a positive example to those around me is what motivates me to put my best foot forward,” Andrea shares. “Leadership has always been my passion as well as to better serve those around me. I wanted to gain expert knowledge and growth to make a positive impact in the nursing field.”

Andrea’s decision to further her education stemmed from a desire for personal growth and a commitment to better serve her community and team. Using our ministry’s education benefits program, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on leadership, driven by her passion for leadership and her goal of making a positive impact in the nursing field.

At Mercy Health, we are proud to give all our team members access to education programs that are designed to empower career growth.

We offer up to 100 percent tuition-free education for priority clinical programs to help them pursue their health care callings and career.

Attending Indiana Wesleyan University, Andrea balanced her studies with her responsibilities as a wife and mother of three by taking online courses. Despite the mental challenges of the program, she found the knowledge she gained to be phenomenal, enabling her to grow personally and professionally.

“The support and love from my husband, three children and parents were crucial,” she acknowledges. “They encouraged, supported and inspired me to continue, even during challenging situations.”

Andrea plans to use her education to better serve her community and unit by applying what she has learned to her practice. She advises those looking to further their education to take this leap of faith.

“There is never a right time to start,” she encourages. “Life will throw many challenges your way and test you. But if you lean on God for guidance, He will support you and get you through anything.”
