Just one day after FC Cincinnati revealed their official 2019 MLS jersey, which features Mercy Health as the kit sponsor as they enter the world of professional soccer, FC Cincinnati has announced today that Mercy Health will also serve as the team’s official health care provider. When we first announced our partnership in 2018, the details were not revealed, but many assumed Mercy Health would serve as the team’s health care providers of choice.

Mercy Health’s Dr. Matthew Lee Busam, a leading physician in the sports medicine and orthopedic realm has been chosen as the team’s Chief Medical Officer. Busam attended Vanderbilt University for both medical school and his orthopedic surgery residency and brings a passion for sports performance and soccer to the FC Cincinnati organization.

“I’m incredibly honored to be able to serve as the Chief Medical Officer for FC Cincinnati. It’s a team made up of great players and coaches alike who have embarked on an incredible journey into MLS. I’m ecstatic to be embarking on that journey with them,” notes Busam.

“These guys work hard day in and day out to perform at an elite level and have worked even harder to get where they are. Our team will work equally as hard to keep them playing at the peak performance levels demanded at the professional level.”

Mercy Health and FC Cincinnati have aligned themselves as key partners over the last year, with the announcement of the jersey sponsorship, followed by their announcement of the new Mercy Health Training Center, and now with the news that Mercy Health’s providers will be providing medical and sports medicine services to FC Cincinnati’s players and coaches.

“As they increasingly commit more and more to FC Cincinnati, we continue to see Mercy Health’s partnership showcase the incredible support the club has from not only its fans, but also the Greater Cincinnati business community,” FC Cincinnati President & General Manager Jeff Berding said. “Mercy Health’s reputation for caring for the community is outstanding and we know that our players, coaches, staff and fans are in superbly skilled and caring hands with Mercy Health.”

The next step in our partnership together is one that will enable us to expand our ability to share compassion, health, and high-quality care with all of those we serve, and we look forward to embarking on that journey with a team that shares our deep commitment and excitement for making our home a better place.
