Welcome to Kacie Truss, a nurse practitioner who recently joined Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center as a specialist for orthopedic trauma! She shares that she was originally inspired by her sister to go into the medical field.
“My sister is one year older, and I have always followed in her footsteps when it came to education. She helped me find my calling as a registered nurse, which led me to achieve my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.”
Kacie’s prior medical experience includes serving as a nurse practitioner in adult infectious disease inpatient care. In this role, she learned how to best work with many interdisciplinary teams. And now, she is following her passion of providing care to those who experience sport injuries.
“I have always had an interest in playing and watching sports,” she shares. “I also having firsthand experience of the secondary injuries that can come along with them. I’ve always been the person who is right on the scene when an accident happens and offer my help.”
Kacie feels the most rewarding aspect of practicing in this specialty is “the ability to show patients their progress after a traumatic event and help them remember where they started from. This motivates patients to further progress and recover both physically and mentally.”
In her new role, Kacie is most excited for the opportunity to learn a new realm of medicine and eventually become an independent provider who can take the load off a very busy surgeon.
“I consider everyone’s socio-economic factors to be real and individualized,” Kacie adds. “Also, I care to work with patients not only physically but also mentally to help get them through their healing process and regain quality of life.”
Above all, providing quality care to patients and building a trusting relationship with them is important to Kacie.
“This relationship is important – it allows the patient to discuss their health issues comfortably and to improve medical outcomes.”
In her free time, Kacie likes to “work out, dance, kayak, hike and play with my dogs.”
We’re so grateful for Kacie and all our other nurse practitioners working hard to take care of our patients. Mercy Health is where nurses mean the world!
