Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year is truly a school year like no other.

To help support the community during this time, Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital has stepped up to support the students of St. Mary School System in Paducah, KY. As a part of this partnership, we will be supporting the cost of a school nurse for the 2020-2021 school year.

“The school system approached us concerning potential ways we could partner, and we decided that supporting a school nurse was the perfect solution, especially during this public health crisis, as it meets Lourdes’ mission of leading our community to better health,” shares Mike Yungmann, Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital President. “The partnership is a fit because of our shared Catholic identity and the ability to meet a real need during an unprecedented school year.”

Additionally, congratulations are in order for Belinda Weitlauf, RN, (pictured above) who has been selected by the school system to be this nurse!  She previously worked in both Mayfield City School District and Paducah Public Schools and brings more than 18 years of school nursing experience to this role. Belinda will meet the health needs of students as well as address increased safety needs as a result of COVID-19.“St. Mary is grateful to Mercy Health for this opportunity to expand our school nurse services particularly at this pandemic time,” says Eleanor Spry, St. Mary School System Director. “The partnership of Mercy Health with St. Mary exemplifies the ministries of both entities—growing healthy minds, bodies, and souls for Christ.”
