Tanner Gerten, a radiology technologist and recent graduate of Rhodes State College, has been a member of our Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center team for just under a year and a half. During her time as a student, Tanner completed two clinical rotations at St. Rita’s, which solidified her desire to start her career with our ministry.
Initially working as a radiologic technologist assistant with a GXMO certificate, Tanner found this role highly beneficial. It better prepared her for her board exams and her future career. Now, after earning her associate degree in radiographic imaging and passing her boards, she has officially become a radiologic technologist.
Tanner shares she enjoys the versatility of her job.
“You can find me in our X-ray rooms doing an exam or on the go with a portable X-ray machine. I care for patients both in the ER and upstairs on the floors.”
She continues, “My favorite part of working here is assisting in surgical cases. Using the C-arm, I get to go into surgery and take images during the procedure. Initially, helping during surgery was very intimidating, but after getting the hang of it, it is a very enjoyable part of my job that I look forward to.”
Encouraging those interested in the medical field to consider this occupation, Tanner says she knew in high school she wanted to work in medicine but preferred a shorter educational path.
“Within two years, I graduated, got my license and started at St. Rita’s,” she explains. “I have extremely enjoyed beginning my career here at St. Rita’s. I love the team that I work with and greatly appreciate all the help and guidance I have received from them.”
