“My goal is to promote health and wellness as well as provide compassionate care.”
Those are the thoughts of Mary Pollock, DNP, APRN, who specializes in gastroenterology. We are so excited she recently joined our Youngstown market where she is serving patients at Mercy Health – Howland Medical Center and Mercy Health – Columbiana Primary Care.
“I initially chose primary care because I wanted to care for both children and adults,” Mary says. “I truly enjoyed primary care and had not planned on changing. However, I was offered a job in gastroenterology and felt this was a great opportunity to learn and specialize.”
Patients come in to see her when they are experiencing any abdominal pain or having bowel irregularities. Some of these health concerns include patients who have irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, dysphagia, rectal bleeding, unintentional weight loss, heartburn, anemia and changes in their bowel pattern or stool consistency.
Mary’s passion to help educate others on their overall quality of life is what encouraged her to advance her education and continue learning through her practice.
“My goal is to someday be able to educate future nurses,” she adds. “I am on the board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Advance Practice Providers (GHAPP), an association to help educate new advanced practice providers.”
Within her specialty, it is Mary’s goal to “educate patients on colorectal cancer screening and prevention, treat GI diseases and build relationships with patients as well as their families.”
She adds, “a patient’s plan of care is a discussion and decision between the patient and provider. Health care is based on evidence-based practice, patient preference and the patient’s needs.”
Outside of work, Mary likes to spend her time traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Welcome, Mary Pollock, to the Mercy Health family!
