We are excited to welcome Hadeer Karmo, MD, a highly experienced neonatal medicine specialist, as the newest member of our Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital team.

And thanks to generous funding from the Mercy Health Foundation, his position and project will be fully supported throughout 2024.

With his extensive background in the field as well as a team of skilled neonatal nurse practitioners, Dr. Karmo will provide round-the-clock, in-house coverage to make sure high-risk mothers and premature infants receive the care they need without having to transferring to other facilities. This approach guarantees the highest level of care while maintaining the bond between mother and baby during this critical time.

Dr. Karmo is a Vanderbilt University neonatology fellowship program graduate and brings 28 years of experience with him to Lourdes Hospital. He is also bringing his dedicated team of certified neonatal nurse practitioners, including Christy Huff, Vicki Herman and Keri Jordan.

Together, this knowledgeable team will significantly enhance Lourdes Hospital’s ability to care for premature and at-risk babies.

Premature and at-risk babies require specialized care and having a dedicated neonatologist like Dr. Karmo is essential in providing the necessary expertise. Through daily virtual rounds, Dr. Karmo closely monitors each baby’s progress and collaborates with the nurse practitioners to develop personalized care plans.

The presence of neonatal nurse practitioners in the nursery 24/7 ensures immediate procedures if needed, allowing prompt access to higher acuity care and minimizing potential delays.

“His expertise in neonatal medicine, combined with the dedication of our nurse practitioners, will significantly enhance our ability to care for premature and at-risk babies,” Dr. Brett Bechtel, chief clinical officer for Mercy Health Kentucky, shares when expressing his excitement about Dr. Karmo joining our team. “Families can now have peace of mind knowing that their little ones can stay at our hospital and receive the specialized care they need.”
