Cancer is a battle that no one should face alone.

Recognizing the need for comprehensive cancer care in our Paducah market, Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is set to open its state-of-the-art cancer center in 2024.

This new facility aims to provide complete cancer care under one roof, offering various ancillary services to patients and their families. These are patients like Jackie Bradford (pictured above, left), a breast cancer survivor and positive powerhouse who is known and loved by many at Lourdes Hospital.

In February of 2022, Jackie’s life took an unexpected turn when she received a breast cancer diagnosis. Just nine months prior, her mammogram had shown no signs of concern. This news was devastating, and Jackie grappled with cancer’s emotional and physical toll.

Jackie says her experience at Lourdes Hospital was marked by the personal connections she formed with her health care team. She recalls feeling like part of a family, with the team members going above and beyond to provide comfort and encouragement. Jackie grew particularly close with her social worker, Sarah, and infusion nurse, Amy, who became her pillar of strength, pushing her to face her fears and offering unwavering support.

“These personal connections played a vital role in my healing process,” Jackie shares.

Lourdes Hospital’s new cancer center will aim to provide a holistic approach to cancer care. The goal is for patients like Jackie to have access to a wide range of services, all conveniently located in one place. From diagnosis to treatment and survivorship, the center will offer cutting-edge technology, expert medical professionals and a compassionate support system.

Understanding that cancer affects both patients and their loved ones, Lourdes Hospital’s cancer center will extend its care to the entire family. Ancillary services such as counseling, support groups, nutritional guidance and rehabilitation programs will be available to ensure that patients and their families receive comprehensive support throughout their cancer journey.

Jackie believes that her strong faith in God and the support of strangers, hand-picked by a higher power, helped her navigate the challenging path of cancer. The compassionate care she received at Lourdes Hospital was a testament to the dedication and commitment of the health care professionals who became her lifeline during this difficult time.

The upcoming Mercy Health – Lourdes Cancer Center is poised to become a beacon of hope for cancer patients and their families.

Similarly, Jackie’s journey is also proving hope and encouragement. She has emerged stronger than ever by keeping her mind on the positive and embracing responsibility for her health. Jackie’s story serves as a reminder that life continues even in the face of adversity, and with the right mindset and support, one can overcome and thrive.

“I want to encourage others who find themselves where I was last February,” Jackie says. “I just want them to know that they, too, can overcome the challenges of cancer and embrace a fulfilling life beyond diagnosis.”
