We are proud to welcome Emily Turvy, CNM, to Mercy Health – Springfield Medical Center!

Emily was first drawn to practicing medicine to have a positive impact on people’s lives. Her whole medical career has been based in women’s health, first serving as a registered nurse in labor and delivery for 11 years before returning to graduate school for her Master of Science in Nursing in Midwifery.

“I chose midwifery because I want to be a part of the birth experience, whether that is an all-natural birth or one with interventions,” Emily explains. “I want to be available for women and their birth experience, however they need.”

Midwifery is a special addition to the pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum field, and the term “midwife” actually means “with woman.” As a midwife, Emily possesses skills that support women through their toughest and most joyous moments, specializing in care for both women and infants.

“The most rewarding aspect of what I do is seeing the parents’ reactions when they see their baby for the very first time,” Emily shares. “The instant connection is something that I will always remember.”

Emily says was drawn to our ministry because of our compassion and commitment to women’s health.

“I appreciate the interest they have in growing a program that can provide better care for women,” she adds. “I’m excited to see the evolution of midwifery care provided to women in the area.”

Emily believes the provider-patient relationship should be based in communication and also be patient-driven.

“I want everyone to have the best birth experience as possible,” she shares. “It is so important for us to communicate with each other. Communication allows us to build a trusting relationship.”

With each new delivery, Emily loves being able to continue to grow as a provider.

“One of the greatest things about medicine is you are always learning and improving to provide the best care possible,” Emily explains.

And when she’s not helping patients? Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She also enjoys gardening, taking care of the animals on her mini-farm and relaxing with friends at the lake.
