On November 12, the Dayton Business Journal recognized Mercy Health – Springfield as the 2020 Non-Profit Business of the Year. The Greater Dayton region is home to hundreds of registered non-profit businesses, so this true honor does not go unnoticed by us.
“I thank the Dayton Business Journal and its judges for this honor,” says Adam Groshans, Mercy Health – Springfield President. “My deepest thanks go out to every one of our team members, who have worked so hard, and often without rest, throughout this challenging year to care for our community and each other. This recognition is theirs and they have earned it.”
There were many factors that helped us earn this honor last night. However, there is no denying the impact of the doctors and nurses in this market. They understood and adjusted as we changed our focus from providing elective care to providing acute care for COVID-19 patients and other patients experiencing emergencies.
“It was only with their help that we were able to rise to the challenge of providing our community with safe, quality care throughout the pandemic. This is work we continue to do to this day,” Adam adds.
Over 130 nurses trained to provide intensive care unit (ICU), ventilator and bedside care. Additionally, 20 team members trained to serve as nursing assistants.
Other providers transitioned from in-person care, except when absolutely necessary, and began offering virtual care instead. These team members helped make this move so successfully. In fact, we saw virtual visits boom of 20 visits per day to more than 8,800 in just three weeks.
Additionally, the facilities team converted areas of our hospitals into negative pressure units. This allowed the Mercy Health – Springfield Regional Medical Center team to provide care safely for COVID-19 patients.
