Caring for Doctors so They Can Care for You

Patients choose doctors who offer options for their care, listen, ask questions about their medical concerns and strive to build a trusting relationship with them.

Doctors have faced a number of obstacles in the past few years, mainly the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet in order to continue to provide exceptional care, they continually put patients’ needs first.

At Mercy Health, we know supporting our physicians’ emotional and spiritual health is the right thing to do. It is also important because it can make all the difference in the medical care patients, like you, experience.

The Medicus Integra Award

Our ministry is committed to serving those who care for our communities. These efforts were recently recognized by the Coalition for Physician Well-Being, a group that surveys organizations to learn how they care for their physicians. The ministry was recognized with the coalition’s Medicus Integra Award for the support we provide our doctors.

“Medicus integra” is a term that describes physicians whose lives are whole, complete and characterized by balance, purpose and meaning. Health care institutions that are recognized by this award best demonstrate a passion and dedication to physician well-being.

This, in turn, is a good indicator of the quality of care, because providing physicians with mental, emotional and spiritual services helps empower them to focus on exceptional care.

How we care for physicians

To support Mercy Health physicians, our ministry has several provider-specific services available, in addition to the health and wellness benefits available to all our team members, such as professional counseling for emotional well-being.

As a faith-based organization, services include the encouragement of our chaplains in each hospital. There are multiple chaplains with different faith backgrounds at every hospital to minister weekly services, and they are available for private consultations as needed. Physicians may also choose to participate in small group sessions and private prayer.

These programs are in place to help ensure that our physicians feel valued and supported as they answer the call to provide exceptional care to you and your family.
