New brain tumor center opens in the Cincinnati area
Tumors that were previously unreachable can now be treated close to home. The Brain Tumor Center at The Jewish Hospital is now open in Cincinnati, providing a full range of treatment options for tumors of the central nervous system.
The new center is the result of a partnership between Mercy Health, the region’s largest health system, and the region’s largest neurosurgical and oncology practices, Mayfield Brain & Spine and OHC (Oncology Hematology Care).
More than 20 doctors who specialize in neurosurgery, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), radiation oncology, medical oncology, neurology, neuropathology, neuroradiology and rehabilitation medicine care for patients at the center. Services include:
- the region’s only skull-based brain tumor program featuring fellowship-trained neurosurgeons and ENT surgeons
- the region’s only Gamma Knife® ICON™ radiosurgery program
- a multidisciplinary Brain Tumor Board
- an award-winning bone marrow transplant program
Mayfield operates the region’s leading brain tumor surgery program. Its highly specialized brain tumor surgeons have performed more than 9,000 brain tumor cases over the past 25 years, including 3,000-plus stereotactic radiosurgery procedures that utilize precisely targeted rays to remove tumors without an incision.
OHC, the Tri-State’s largest independent oncology practice, is the region’s premier source of treatment for nearly every form of adult cancer and complex blood disorders. It offers patients access to a clinical trials program offering the latest medical, gynecologic and radiation therapy.
