Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is proud to announce it has earned recertification of Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards from The Joint Commission. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing safe and quality stroke care to patients.
Lourdes Hospital underwent a rigorous, onsite review in 2022. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with Advanced Primary Stroke Center standards spanning several areas including emergency management and timely treatment of patients presenting with stroke-like symptoms.
To prepare for this recertification process, our team established compliance with Joint Commission standards as well as American Heart Association Stroke Care Clinical Practice Guidelines.
The stroke program at Lourdes Hospital provides evidence-based primary stroke care including evaluation, treatment and education to patients who come to the facility with signs and symptoms of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). Our stroke leadership team, including our medical director, stroke coordinator and stroke multidisciplinary committee, are actively involved in the stroke program ensuring all patients receive high-quality, innovative stroke care.
The Lourdes Hospital Stroke Program also includes the use of medications like tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis, cholesterol-reducing drugs and smoking cessation medications. Our program provides education to the community on stroke prevention, and our program ensures that the medical staff is trained on the most current clinical best practices.
And for those critical stroke patients who require a higher level of care than Lourdes Hospital has the ability to provide, partnerships have been put into place to provide transfer to a nearby facility with resources to provide comprehensive neurological and neurosurgical support and a full range of diagnostic and endovascular therapeutic procedures. These partnerships allow us to share imaging results, such as CT scans, for consultations and collaboration between health care providers, which improves consistency in stroke care.
