Picture this. School’s out for summer, and you’re lounging in the sun. Your spouse is picking fresh tomatoes from the garden for dinner, as your kids play safely in the driveway. Already packed for your upcoming trip, it feels like there’s not a care in the world. All that’s left to do is embrace the warm summer sun and celebrate everyone’s favorite season.
It’s a picture-perfect summer scene. But if this moment doesn’t feel like your family’s reality, you’re not alone.
For many of us, summer looks a bit more like this. As you lie in the sun, you’re getting bitten by mosquitoes. Feeling your skin burn, you wonder if you used the correct sunscreen. The garden has produced another batch of rotten tomatoes, which means you need to run to the grocery before dinner. Meanwhile, your son falls and scrapes his knee and you can’t find the first aid kit.
Summer is a nostalgic season for many of us, but it also presents many challenges and safety concerns. Between the heat and the kids being home from school, it’s easy to feel like things are always on high alert.
That’s why we created our Summer Survival Guide. Starting this Monday, June 11, we’re bringing you six weeks of content to help you navigate summer safety and the season’s greatest challenges.
With six categories, including exercise, food, nature, travel, heat and home safety, there’s something for everyone. So, whether you’re concerned about easing into an exercise routine, hydration tips, or ensuring your kids are safe at home while you’re at work, we have you covered. Each post will also include a badge to denote which of the six categories it falls into, making it easy to follow along with the topics that pertain most to you.
What’s more? We’re highlighting the best outdoor activities in each of Mercy Health’s regions, so you’ll always have new ideas for activities to enjoy with your family.
Our hope is that we can help you tackle any challenges that come your way this summer, so you can spend the season how you want to be spending it — embracing time with family and enjoying the great outdoors.
